The full Board of Scottish Volleyball met this past Sunday, 23rd February 2025, for the Board’s Annual Development Day, which included a Board meeting.
The morning session was educational and detailed for the Board with presentations and updates from Rowan Johnston, Adam Paton, Blair Pettigrew and Margaret Ann Fleming MBE. It was an interactive session with the Board fully engaging and embracing the requirements of good governance within UKAD and Moving to Inclusion (EDI), with a robust and positive discussion in relation to our Strategic Plan “We Are Volleyball 2023-2027”.
The afternoon Board meeting contained compulsory standing agenda items relevant to the governance of the organisation and included a presentation and workshop from Scottish Volleyball’s HR consultant, Pam Radage. Pam evoked discussions and actions for the Board to consider, in alignment to our core values, aims and objectives, which are contained within our “We Are Volleyball” plan.
A significant focus to this Board meeting was the change over of personal within the Board. Sandy Steel (Technical Director), Ian Girot (Finance Director) and Scott Borthwick (Chair of the Board and Legal Director) finished their tenure and dedication to Scottish Volleyball. After a robust recruitment process, they were replaced by Bill Stobie (Technical Director) and Kirsteen Houston (Finance Director). The Chair of the Board was appointed from the existing Board Directors unanimously and will commence the role with immediate effect.
Scottish Volleyball is delighted to announce Leigh Watson (Welfare and Education Director) as the newly appointed Chair of the Scottish Volleyball Board. Leigh has been a Scottish Volleyball Board Director for the past two years and brings a huge amount of experience, knowledge and skill to this position. To support Leigh, the Scottish Volleyball Board also voted to appoint Jean Bruce (HR Director) as the deputy Chair. Jean shall use her many years of gained insight, experience and commitment to deputise for Leigh when required and to share the workload.
A huge congratulations to Leigh and to the other appointed Board Directors.
Scottish Volleyball Board and staff wholeheartedly thank the outgoing Directors Scott, Sandy and Ian and wish them well. All three people have tirelessly given their time, enthusiasm, knowledge, patience, skill – and above all dedication – as volunteers to our sport. They were all thanked on the day with a gift from Scottish Volleyball presented to them by the incoming Chair of the Board.
