Scottish Volleyball is excited to unveil its newly redesigned coaching qualifications, inspired by the SQA (Scottish Qualifications Authority) framework, to future-proof our courses and make them more accessible. While these qualifications are not officially part of the SQA framework, they are designed to mirror the new SQA coaching certificate, ensuring that our coaches receive high-quality training.
The existing Level 1, 2, and 3 qualifications will be replaced by the Development Coach & Head Coach Award. The Development Coach Award is aimed at those making their first steps on their coaching journey with the Head Coach Award, currently under development,offering a comprehensive course allowing collaborative working between active coaches looking to lead teams and programmes.
The Development Coach Award consists of five units. One of these units will be delivered in person, while the remaining four will be offered online, making the qualification more flexible for participants. This hybrid delivery model allows coaches to work through the content at their own pace and from any location, accommodating the busy schedules of aspiring and current coaches.
Scottish Volleyball’s High Performance Coach and Coaching Manager, Ally Jack, expressed his enthusiasm for the new system. “We’re thrilled to introduce a more flexible and modern structure that mirrors the new SQA coaching certificate. These qualifications will not only equip our coaches with the essential skills they need but will also be accessible to more people, making it easier for coaches to progress through future levels at their own pace,” said Jack.
The first practical, in-person unit of the Development Coach Award will take place at Dundee University on Saturday, 21st September, with the four online units becoming available soon afterward. The online units will be offered a minimum of twice throughout the indoor season, and participants can complete them in any order for maximum flexibility.
