Perth College hosted the second of three Fast Track sessions on ‘Developing the Setter’ on Sunday 10 November. The number of athletes involved increased to 36, plus 11 coaches, with the coaching delivery by National Team coach, Thomas Dowens.
The work continued to focus on movement to the ball, the use of the body to play the ball and the tactics used by the setter. The setters linked with outside hitters, who were charged with hitting with control and accuracy. The quality of work from the setters continued to improve as they battled with the understanding of the linkages and decision making involved in their play.
The third Fast Track session is on Saturday 14 December, and will feature middle hitters as well as setters. The venue has changed to Wishaw Sports Centre, Alexander Street, ML2 0HQ and will be from 10.00 to 1.00.
The work with the setters will focus on linkage, footwork, rhythm and timing. The work with the middle hitters will examine their timing, approach routes and tactics.
