Scotland Women Crowned SCA Champions After Stunning Comeback in Andorra

Scotland’s Senior Women’s Volleyball Team were crowned Small Countries Association (SCA) Champions after producing a remarkable comeback victory at the 2026 SCA Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship in Andorra. The tournament, held over three days, brought together some of Europe’s leading small-nation volleyball teams and concluded with Scotland lifting the gold medal after an unforgettable final against San Marino.

The championship began with intense group-stage competition on Friday and Saturday as teams battled for places in the knockout rounds. Scotland competed in Group B, finishing second behind San Marino to secure their place in the semi-finals. Across the tournament, the Scottish side demonstrated resilience, determination and growing confidence against strong opposition.

Sunday delivered a dramatic finale to the event. In the semi-finals, Scotland faced the Faroe Islands in a thrilling contest that showcased the team’s fighting spirit. Scotland raced into a two-set lead before the Faroese side mounted an impressive comeback to level the match. With a place in the final at stake, Scotland held their nerve in the decisive fifth set, securing victory and earning a spot in the gold-medal match.

Their opponents in the final would be San Marino, who also required five sets to overcome Ireland in the second semi-final. Having already topped Scotland’s group, San Marino entered the championship match full of confidence and quickly looked to be on course for the title. They claimed the opening two sets and appeared firmly in control of proceedings.

However, Scotland refused to surrender. Led by an outstanding performance from Rachel Morrison, who was later named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, the Scots staged a remarkable turnaround. Scotland fought back to win the third and fourth sets, forcing a deciding fifth set and shifting momentum firmly in their favour. In a tense and dramatic conclusion, Scotland edged the final set to complete one of the most memorable comebacks in recent SCA Championship history.

It was an absolute honour to lead the team to Gold in Andorra this weekend. With one of the toughest schedules we have had in years, playing against some top quality opposition, in extreme heat, we always knew that the path to Gold wasnt going to be easy. But the grit and determination with which this team played with to come back from 2 sets down in the final to win the gold was incredible. It really displayed the belief and character which the team and coaching staff have built over the past few years that has lead us to 3 consecutive golds! And as always it was an absolute privilege to be a part of.

The victory sparked jubilant celebrations among the Scottish players and coaching staff, who had battled through a demanding weekend of competition to reach the summit. San Marino took the silver medal, while the Faroe Islands secured bronze after defeating Ireland in the third-place playoff. Liechtenstein finished sixth after overcoming hosts Andorra, who placed seventh.

The team now begin preparations for the BVF Invitation Cup taking place in Limerick, Ireland at the end of July.

I am extremely proud of the team for the resilience and effort they showed over the whole weekend. To play 10 sets of volleyball (lasting over 5 hours!) on Sunday and to come out with the gold was an incredible achievement! I could not have asked from anymore from anyone! Also huge thank you to the travelling support and everyone watching at home, it cannot be underestimated how much that support gave the team the boost they needed!
