The Under 18 Scotland Women’s squad have returned home following three challenging matches at the CEV Small Countries Association (SCA) U18 Championships in Malta, held from 10–13 April 2025.
The young Scots faced San Marino and Northern Ireland in the group stage, followed by a 5th/6th playoff against Monaco. Despite showing promise and resilience, the squad finished 6th overall after the following results:
San Marino 3–0 Scotland
Northern Ireland 3–1 Scotland
Monaco 3–1 Scotland
While the results may not reflect the full story, the team demonstrated exceptional teamwork, energy, and flashes of technical brilliance throughout the tournament.

Head Coach Fiona Welsh reflected on the experience:
“This tournament was a fantastic learning experience for all of our young players, and they return inspired to work hard in order to improve. In spells, there were flashes of brilliance which we can take confidence from and hope to see more of in the future. I am honoured to have coached this young team and feel optimistic for the future of Scottish volleyball.”
Head of Performance and Coaching, Ally Jack, praised the team’s development:
“While the results didn’t go our way, the experience gained by these young athletes is invaluable. They’ve shown great character, flashes of real quality, and a desire to grow. This tournament was a stepping stone, and I’m confident it will fuel their development and strengthen the pathway for future success. The coaching team and players should be proud of how they represented Scotland on the international stage.”
Scottish Volleyball is proud of this squad’s efforts and looks forward to seeing how these athletes continue to grow and develop as part of the national pathway. We will be launching the Junior Beach Pathway for 2025 very soon as well as information for the 2025-26 Tartan Talent Pathway during the summer.
