Sitting Volleyball

Sitting Volleyball

ParaVolley encompasses the various disciplines of the sport of volleyball for athletes with a physical disability – including Sitting Volleyball, Standing Volleyball, Standing Beach Volleyball and Sitting Beach Volleyball for all age groups and both genders. Scottish Volleyball are working to develop Sitting Volleyball in Scotland with the aim to provide sporting and wider opportunities for those living in Scotland with disabilities.

Classification is a vital part of all ParaSports, with the process assessing the athlete’s physical impairment and grouping them according to their medical evaluation and their physical and functional ability to perform the actions of volleyball.  A team of internationally trained and certified Classifiers is responsible for managing the classification process. All grassroots Sitting Volleyball if fully integrated, meaning anyone can play, but for those seeking to go on and play internationally for Scotland or perhaps Team GB at the Paralympics, they must have a classified impairment. For more information on Sitting Volleyball classifications, please visit the World ParaVolley website.

Scottish Volleyball will be starting the strategy with a series of taster sessions around Scotland in Autumn 2024. More information will be available in September 2024, but for now, Expressions of Interest are being taken via Microsoft forms.
