Development Officer - Community

Lorna McAvoy

Appointed in summer 2025, Lorna brings a broad background in sport, physical education, and leadership to her role. She has lived and worked across Scotland, New Zealand, and France, and also spent time in the USA, giving her a wide international perspective.

A former volleyball player in Edinburgh, representing Jets in Division 2 and later Division 1, Lorna also coached junior and senior school teams in New Zealand. Her coaching responsibilities included district leagues, the North Island Secondary Schools’ Championships, and even an international sports exchange in Australia. Lorna also played recreationally in France, where post-match cheese and wine were as much a part of the experience as the matches themselves!

At Scottish Volleyball, Lorna’s remit includes building school and club links, developing student volleyball opportunities, expanding recreational and community provision, and growing the Sitting Volleyball programme. She works with partners to strengthen pathways into the sport, promote lifelong participation, and champion opportunities for women, girls, and underrepresented groups.
