Dundee and Angus Local League
2025–26: Season Round-Up

The 2025–26 Dundee and Angus Local League season brought together seven teams for a busy programme of over 50 fixtures, running from October through to March.

Established sides such as DBDs and defending champions Anchor were joined by newer and developing teams including Anchor Angels and Mentally Paul. Dundee University Volleyball Club were also well represented, with Penguins and Seagulls competing alongside alumni team Big Digs.

Matches took place weekly at Menzieshill Community Hub, with four fixtures played each Tuesday evening. Across the season, it was great to see teams developing their level of play, with newer and younger players making significant progress in both their tactical understanding and technical ability. Close matches, long rallies and a strong sense of enjoyment throughout made for a consistently positive environment.

Play-Offs and Finals

Following the regular league format, where all teams played each other twice, the season concluded with play-offs to determine final league positions.

In the 3rd/4th place play-off, Big Digs delivered a strong performance to defeat last year’s runners-up DBDs in straight sets (21–17, 21–13).

The league final saw a compelling match between youth and experience, as Anchor Angels ended Anchor’s eight-year hold on the title with a well-earned 2–0 victory (21–14, 21–19), completing an undefeated season and lifting the championship.

Looking Ahead

There are plans to expand the Dundee and Angus Local League for the 2026–27 season, with the introduction of a potential second division aimed at supporting more recreational teams and increasing opportunities for participation across the area.

Acknowledgements

A huge thank you to Paul McPate for his continued work in delivering the Dundee and Angus Local League and for his wider contribution to volleyball across the area and within the student game.

As Paul prepares to step away from his role at Dundee University, it is important to recognise the significant impact he has had over a number of years in creating consistent playing opportunities and supporting the growth of volleyball locally. His energy and commitment have played a big part in shaping the volleyball community in Dundee and Angus, and this season is another strong example of that.

Take a bow, Paul!
