Weeks 4 and 5 of the Scottish Volleyball League delivered intense matchups and standout performances across Scotland. Here’s a recap of how the last 2 Premier SVL dates have gone:

Week 4:

Edinburgh Jets were hosting fellow Edinburgh based side NUVOC. It was a 3-0 win for Jets, with Alexis Crusey averaging a 2.45 passing rate to help her team seal the deal. Edinburgh University were also playing in Edinburgh, just a small trip over to Queensferry. 5.67 kills per set for Rachel Morrison and 4 aces from Ellen Ranklin meant the win went the way of City of Edinburgh 3-0. Mets hosted Volleyball Aberdeen with the home team taking the win 3-0, Rachel Underwood dominating the match with 17 kills alone! Su Ragazzi were the hosts for their match against Caledonia West. Laura McReady showed she can hit just as well as she can pass, storming the court with a 0.67 attacking percentage, and bringing home the win 3-0.

Edinburgh Jets Bears were also playing NUVOC. A 3-1 win this time for the Bears, helped by setter Michele de Noia and his 5 aces, although Aaron Leitch and his 4 kills per set average certainly made it trickier. City of Edinburgh were hosting Edinburgh University. Another 5 set match, this time going the way of City with Ewan Ramsay and his 23 kills over the match making sure of that. Volleyball Aberdeen were up against Glasgow Mets, but Iliyan Kalphov’s 2.58 passing rate and 18 perfect receives meant that Mets took the win 3-2. South Ayrshire made the trip through to Glasgow to play last year’s league winner’s City of Glasgow Ragazzi. Although 3 solo blocks from Chris Mexson helped his team to put a set on the board, it was the Ragazzi team that took the win 3-1.

Week 5:

NUVOC were hosting Volleyball Aberdeen this week. It was a close match, with the last set going all the way to 32-30! It was the host team that eventually sealed the deal with a 3-0 win. Glasgow Mets hosted Edinburgh Jets Bears and it was certainly an exciting one! The match eventually went the way of the visitors 3-2, helped in part by setter Ryan Cairns and his 36 assists.  City of Edinburgh were deep in the west of Scotland, taking on South Ayrshire. Euan Duncan and Rory Russell didn’t make it easy for the team in blue as they each racked up 15 kills each. However with Liam Darling averaging a serve receive rate of 2.92 and Matthew Allan hitting 3 kills per set, the result went to City 3-1. Edinburgh University were hosting current league toppers City of Glasgow Ragazzi. The visiting team showed their dominance and won the match with a comfortable 3-0 score, helped along the way by Daniel Okungbowa and his 4 aces.

Volleyball Aberdeen travelled down to Edinburgh to take on hosts NUVOC. The visiting team made it a worth while trip and brought home the win 3-0. Edinburgh Jets were also taking on Glasgow Mets, and also made it an exciting game! Another 3-2 for the Edinburgh based side (their second of the season), although Mets didn’t make it easy for them as Dylan De Guzman racked up 3 solo blocks. It was Jets’ outside hitter Joanna Wroblewska making the biggest impact though, with 9 aces over the 5 sets! City of Edinburgh were taking on Caledonia West, with new debut Holly bring home 5 aces to help the team win 3-0. Su Ragazzi were playing Edinburgh University, but an injury to their setter meant the match was forfeit in the 2nd set. EUVC therefore took the win 3-1.
