Sunday evening saw the opening round of fixtures for the new volleyball season as Premier League sides met at Perth College for the League Cup competition.
Clackers, cup holders, Dodgy Spikers, league champions and new side Ace Holes were all in the mix along with the other regulars drawn in one section of four and one section of three.
Iain Cook’s Perth Volleyball Club fielded two teams thanks to increased numbers now attending their Tuesday evening training sessions at Perth High School.
The section with four teams saw Dodgy Spikers defeat a young Kinross side who fielded six High School pupils in their squad. Mental Blocks eased past Perth I, as did Dodgy Spikers.
The final game of the section was in effect as Dodgy Spiker met Mental Blocks. The first set was close all the way with Blockers just edging it 27-25. Spikers rallied in the second set and although leading 17-15 at full time it was Blockers who qualified for the final.
Section two started with new side Ace Holes easing past Clackers before securing qualification for the final by defeating Perth II.
The final saw Mental Blocks take control to win the first set 25-18 but Ace Holes pegged back to level the match winning the second set 25-23. The third set decider saw Mental Blocks storm ahead to finish well ahead to lift the cup after failing in last year’s final.
