In a spectacular display of skill and determination, the Scotland U18 Women’s volleyball team made their mark on the international stage, securing a bronze medal at the CEV Small Countries Association Championships 2024 held in Malta. Led by Head Coach Shelly Paterson and Assistant Coach Fiona Welsh, the team showcased their exceptional talent and resilience throughout the tournament, earning accolades and recognition for their outstanding performances.
The journey to bronze was not without its challenges, as the Scottish squad faced tough competition from formidable opponents, but stepped up and improved with each and every set. Their unwavering spirit and commitment to excellence propelled them to victory, culminating in a well-deserved podium finish.
In a thrilling match against Northern Ireland on Friday, Scotland exhibited their fighting spirit, overcoming their opponents with a hard-fought 3-2 victory. Set scores of 25-20, 19-25, 13-25, 25-12, and 15-7 highlighted the team’s ability to rise to the occasion under pressure.
Despite a valiant effort, Scotland faced a narrow defeat against Ireland on Saturday, with the match ending 2-3 in favour of the Irish team. However, the Scottish squad demonstrated their resilience once again, pushing their opponents to the limit with set scores of 24-26, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, and 11-15.
In their final match of the tournament against hosts Malta on Sunday, Scotland put up a spirited fight but ultimately fell short, with Malta securing a 3-0 victory. Nevertheless, the Scottish team’s performance throughout the championship was commendable, showcasing their talent and determination on the court.
Amidst the team’s success, Holly emerged as a standout player, earning the title of Best Middle of the Tournament. Scott’s exceptional performance served as a testament to the talent and dedication of the entire squad, further solidifying Scotland’s presence on the international volleyball scene. 
The squad, consisting of Holly Scott, Jemma King, Charlotte Cumming, Lucy Campbell, Grace Campbell, Kirsty Hall, Brooke Law, Sasha Clegg-McKeown, Jessica Burns, Lauren Dean, Niamh Ramsay, and Mikaella Dillon, displayed exemplary teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the championship, earning praise and admiration from fans and competitors alike.
Indoor Performance and Coaching Manager Ally Jack expressed his pride in the team’s achievement, stating, “The Scotland U18 Women’s team’s performances at the CEV Small Countries Association Championships 2024 exemplifies the talent and determination present within Scottish Volleyball. Their bronze medal finish is a testament to their hard work and dedication as well as the development offered by the Tartan Talent programme for players and coaching staff alike. The coaching staff of Shelly Paterson and Fiona Welsh did a great job and my thanks go to them and the travelling support!”
