Beach Referee Course

Barry McGuiganWould you like to become a Beach Volleyball Referee or are you a Grade 4 Beach Volleyball Referee who is looking to move up to Grade 3? Would you like to get involved in refereeing on the Scottish Beach Tour? Qualified Beach Volleyball Referees are paid for every match they officiate on centre court at any of the Scottish Beach Tour events, so this is an opportunity to earn some money over the summer months!

The Referees Commission are organising two Beach Referees Courses. Dates TBC in St. Andrews alongside the St. Andrews Open Beach Volleyball Championships:

Date TBC – Grade 4 Beach Referees Course
Venue – East Sands, St. Andrews
Cost – £20

Date TBC – Grade 3 Beach Referees Course
Venue – East Sands, St. Andrews
Cost – £20Sandy Steel

Grade 4 consists of a theoretical session covering rules and cases. Scoring techniques are also covered.

Grade 3 takes the candidates up a level and focuses on practical refereeing, feedback is given to candidates. Practical refereeing includes scoring and line judging plus application of the techniques and rules learned on the Grade 4 course.

You can do both courses back-to-back which means that in a single weekend you could reach Grade 3.

If you are a qualified Referee, attending the Grade 4 course will allow you to ‘convert’ to being a Beach Volleyball Referee at your current grade (NB: this only applies up to Grade 2, Grade 1 and FIVB referees will be awarded Grade 2 on successful completion of the conversion course).
