Scotland’s most decorated female beach athlete steps in to help the next generation of young female athletes

Scottish Volleyball are delighted to announce that Mel Coutts will lead the Beach Volleyball team going to the 2023 Trinbago Youth Commonwealth Games in August.

Coutts, a FIVB qualified beach coach with decades of experience on the sand, is the perfect choice to help support the selected pair as they play against some of the best young players in the Commonwealth. Our athletes will come up against tough opposition from the likes of Canada, Australia, and England but they will be given every chance to succeed under the watchful supervision of Mel.

Mel Coutts is working alongside Colin Paterson, in his role as the lead coach for the Junior Beach Programme, to help train the longlist of athletes who are all vying for a coveted selection spot.

Interim Beach Programme Manager Blair Pettigrew said, “I am thrilled that Mel has agreed to take on this vital role for Team Scotland, there is nobody more qualified to help our athletes both on and off the sand at the Youth Commonwealth Games. I’d like to thank Mel personally for giving up the time between her own training, work, club, and personal commitments to help support our next generation of athletes”.

The successful pair will be selected next month and announced by Team Scotland in early Summer. The Youth Commonwealth Games are in Trinidad and Tobago from 4th to 11th August 2023.
