The East of Scotland Regional Volleyball League kicked off on Wednesday Perth VCevening at the North Inch Community Campus in Perth where the visitors were near neighbours Kinross.

With three teams in the East Central Scotland section each team will play the other home and away with Linlithgow Hornets making up the third side.

Perth lined up with Stephen Clarke, Kevan McShea, Gregor Walker,  David Jakubina, Christian Baszejewski and Janek Deja with Kinross opting for Craig Scott, Andrew Hutchison, John Booth, Kieran Small, Jamie Booth and Roy Munro with young fourteen year old Mitchell Brown as their libero player.

The opening set saw Kinross take an early lead with Perth making too many unforced errors. Leading 13-4 the visitors too started to make their own errors allowing the home side to come within three points at 19-22. Kinross got themselves back on the rails to score the vital three points to secure the first set 25-19.

Both teams made changes to their personnel for the second set  with the home side opting for Allan Boag and the experience of Ray McIntosh. Kinross brought on Carlo Fiorentini as second setter and Dave Mackay as a middle hitter.

Kinross VCAgain the visitors dominated for much of the set to lead 21-8 but again their concentration lapsed and the home side capitalised by taking the score to 17-22. Again Kinross did just enough to score the next three points without reply to win the second set.

The third set followed a similar pattern to the first two with Kinross establishing a 15-7 lead only to let the home side come back to within two points at 18-20. Again Kinross saw out the set by scoring the next five points, the final one being a spectacular jump serve from  Roy Munro, to win
the game by three sets to love.

Kinross now play Linlithgow Hornets at Loch Leven Community Campus on Monday evening for their second fixture of this season’s Regional League.
