It is with deepest regret that the Scottish Volleyball Association has to announce the very sad and sudden death of a valued member of our Association.

Graeme Allen, a lifelong player, official and support of Scottish Volleyball died on Monday evening aged 49 years.

SVA Chief Executive Margaret Ann Fleming paid tribute to Graeme saying “Graeme was a well known and popular colleague and friend within Scottish Volleyball. Graeme was an outstanding volunteer who was always ready with a smile and the attitude of what can I do next! His sudden death has upset everyone who knew him and our thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family and friends at this very sad time”

Graeme’s most recent club involvement was with NUVOC. The club issued a statement on their website: “On Monday past, Graeme passed away unexpectedly. A long time friend to the club and indeed volleyball in Scotland his vast experience, cheeky grins and selfless enthusiasm will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, Wendy and his closest friends”

Graeme was also an experienced and highly motivated referee and represented the Referees Commission for many years. Grant MacIntyre, Vice-President of this Commission said “”On behalf of the Referees Commission, I would like to extend our most sincere condolences to Graeme’s family and friends at this very sad time. Graeme was an asset to the Referees Commission whilst he was a member, and for a long time he was the link between ourselves and the Beach Commission. Graeme was also an experienced referee who gave up a significant amount of his spare time to referee matches all over Scotland. His regular involvement in the appointed referee system was a reflection of his undoubted ability as a referee. Away from the court Graeme was always great company with many funny stories to tell of his volleyball life. He will be sadly missed.”
